Tip

IF USING WHOLE SPICES – FIRST DRY ROAST APPROX 20 MINS AT VAROMA TEMP, COOL AND MILL – SET ASIDE

This makes a very soupy consistency - I often serve as an entree rather than an accompaniment - just add less stock/water if you'd prefer it to be thicker

  • I read the comments and added

I read the comments and added extra time as I was using dried yellow split peas. I had soaked them for about 4 hours beforehand. In the end I cooked for 45 minutes at 100C. Think the recipe could be made more clear (it suggests whole spices in ingredients, but only tells you in the tips to mill them first - oops! so I just used ground spices as I'd already started cooking the onions when I realised). We loved this on top of steamed brown rice. It makes a good quantity so looking forward to having for lunch tomorrow!

  • Oh Mumma - I've just seen

Oh Mumma - I've just seen this and I'm so sorry the recipe didn't work out - I always use tinned lentils which obviously don't need the time that dried ones do. This was a mistake in transcribing the recipe and I'm sorry it caused  a problem - sorry to hubby too.......

Please try it again - it's a lovely recipe - truly ( but use tinned lentils!)

  • What are the missing

    Submitted by kaelans_mumma on 11. May 2012 - 21:26.

What are the missing sections?? Also, 25 minutes is not long enough at that temperature.. I followed all of the directions and the split peas were still not soft.

Not great for impressing the husband who bought TMX for me  tmrc_emoticons.((
