Garlic and Lentil soup

Ingredients

  • 150 grams yellow mung lentils, washed and soaked in water for atleast 1 hour
  • 1/2 litre water
  • 250 grams tomatoes, cut in quaters
  • 1 green chillie
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 3 green onions, Spring
  • 1/2 teaspoon tumeric powder
  • 3 tablespoon oil
  • 1 heaped teaspoon salt, adjust according to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fenugreek seeds, optional

Recipe's preparation

  1. Wash and rinse the lentils. Put them in the Thermomix bowl along with 300 grams of water.Closed lid 6 minutes, 100 temperature, speed 2. Scoop out the scum that rises.

  2.  Then add the tomatoes, green chillie, tumeric powder and salt. Closed lid  Remove the measuring cup (use the basket to cover the lid) 10 minutes, Varoma, Speed 2. If there is an overflow increse the speed to 4.

  3. Blend the soup for 30 seconds, slowly increasing the speed to six.

    After this stage you can strain the soup through a fine strainer if you like.

    Remove the soup in a thermoserver and keep aside.

  4. Rinse the bowl. Now put in 1/2 the amount of oil.Closed lid 4 minutes, vroma temperature, speed 1.

    Through the measuring cup add the cumin seeds and the fenugreek seeds.Closed lid4 minutes, Varoma, Counter-clockwise operation speed 1

    Pour this mixture while still hot into the soup.

     

  5. Add the remaining oil.Then add the garlic cloves and spring onions. Slowly increase the speed upto 5. Open lid and scrape down the sides of the bowl.Closed lidTemperature 120, speed 1 Counter-clockwise operation,6 minutes.

    Then add the entire soup into the bowl. Closed lidCounter-clockwise operation minutes,120 temperature, speed 1.

    Serve in inidivdual bowls with some white rice or bread.

Tip

You can use the Varoma to steam potato quaters to add the to soup once cooked to make it a filling meal.
