HaHa - I only had coconut oil and half the cocoa so I used raw cacao instead - so mine probably taste very different yours but still delish and I loved pouring out of a jug - no messy spoons and trying to stop kids licking and re dipping :)

These are the best cupcakes I've ever had! I made them with my 3 Year old but frankly, they are too good to be shared! Brilliant recipe, thanks so much! I cut the sugar also, to 200g, otherwise all perfect!

Love this recipe! I halved all The ingredients to make 12 cupcakes and it still worked really well! Anyone have any ideas on how to make a vanilla batch? Replace the coco with custard powder?

    Submitted by FionaCallisto on 4. July 2015 - 18:16.

im so sorry alison that you had such a fail, as have been making these cupcakes for years and have never had a problem.

the only thing i can think of is perhaps the oven temp wasnt high enough or they wernt cooked long enough.

the mix is a very thin liquid mix not a thick batter type mix but i have never had a problem with it.

did you cook cupcakes or a whole cake?

Not sure as have never had that happen, maybe because of the reduced sugar alters the  recipe, maybe if there are any bakers out there they may be able to offer suggestions

These are delicious! My favourite texture - moist with a lovely crumb. I heavily reduced the sugar but kept the cocoa as I love a strong chocolate taste. A bit of the cake tended to stay on the wrapper - not sure why?

Thanks - these were winners! Like many others, I reduced sugar (to 350 g) because 400 g sounded like so much but then of course, we're making a double batch of cupcakes! Recipe worked well.

    Submitted by JustMe on 27. June 2013 - 23:53.

Really easy to make, and it's done about 26 cupcakes.

I only put 300g of sugar in (I just couldn't bring myself to put the whole 420g!) and 50g of cocoa. They're in the oven baking now, the batter tasted good so I am assuming the finished product will too  ;)

Really nice and easy - very fluffy and moist - I halved the recipe because I only wanted 12. Couldn't resist putting some mini Easter eggs in the middle - just cause they are around at the moment - nice warm but keen to know how they will be when they are chilled.
