Delicious, moist loaf. Easy to make with basic ingredients. Definitely worth 5 stars. As suggested by others I reduced the sugar. Looking forward to making a sauce as suggested in comments to make it into a Sticky Date Pudding.

Best recipe! I love chunks of dates so set the date/water/bicarb mix aside after step 1 and add back in at step 4 but only mix on speed 4. Also use 220g dates and reduce sugar to 50g.

I have to say, this is my favourite baking outcome so far with my thermomix. I subbed in jaggery (the indian block sugar) and it still tasted great. Next time I'm going to try GF flour as well.

Absolutely fantastic recipe, quick easy and tastes so moist, I have made it three times as per the receipe then last night I decided to make it into a sticky date by using 1/3 cup cream, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 3tbs butter melted together until the sugar melted and when the cake was cooked I used a knife to pierce the cake in several places and poured over the warm sauce and let it sit for 10 mins before cuttnig and serving with cream. Sensational my family loved it and it is soooooooooo easy !!!

That sounds like a brilliant idea - I'm going to try it...

Submitted by Amy Gelmi on 18. May 2013 - 11:14.

Delicious - even my husband loved it (he normally hates any cakes with fruit in them). I feel this will be a new favourite crowd-pleasing recipe for me - Perfect for morning/afternoon tea, or even a slice at breakfast!! I also sprinkled some slithered/flaked almonds on top prior to baking, which came out golden brown and crunchy and were a really nice finish to the loaf.
