Recipe's preparation

    Sweetened Condensed Milk
  1. 1) Measure ingredients into TM bowl. 3 min / 100 degrees / speed 4.

    2) After removing from bowl, you will need to wash the bowl using hot water.

    3) The mixture will be thin, but thickens on cooling.

    4) The mixture can be measured and used immediately in any recipe calling for sweetened condensed milk.

Tip

1) Sweetened condensed milk can be made with 100% full cream powdered milk, 100% skim powdered milk, or a mixture of the two - depending upon whether you want the result to be full cream or reduced fat. The full cream version is 7-8% fat.

2) Can be made from white sugar or raw sugar. Raw sugar makes a darker sweetened condensed milk.

3) Salt is added to intensify sweetness.

4) Can alternatively be made using boiling water from a jug                     - 1 min / speed 4. It is, however, easier to heat the water in the TM as in the "preparation" instructions above.

5) Keeps for 2 weeks in fridge. Can be frozen.

This is brilliant and tastes exactly the same, thank you so much for sharing. I ran out of tinned stuff and live out of town this was perfect, I won't bother buying tins anymore. Tho just a hint for those as ditsy as me and have a serious brain fart problem, don't use freshly made milk in things such as yumyums because it melts the choc chips...who knew, LOL. Still they tasted great and were gone in no time. LolBig Smile Thank you.

Epson: it's heaps cheaper to make it.
Probably 1/3 the price of nestle and half the price of homebrand!!
Based on what it cost me for the ingredients this recipe costs approximately 85 cents.
The homebrand tin is $1.60 at my local Coles. Not sure on the price of the nestle brand but maybe around $3??

I have found that it won't set fudge if I use skim milk powder, but with full cream it seems to work fine.

  • I believe tinned condensed

    Submitted by Sharon.thermomix on 16. November 2016 - 09:47.

I believe tinned condensed milk is 45% sugar .....therefore, homemade most CM recipes (that often reduce the sugar levels) are NOT going to perform the same when used in many baking recipes however are a great substitute for cold slices, ice creams and baked recipes that don't rely on the sugar content for texture end result.

I wonder if I can make condensed milk?  Well yes....it appears there is a recipe on here!  I had this sweet condensed milk made with in literally 3 mins.  I was just so impressed and happy with myself.

Thankyou so much for sharing this recipe.  I have to stop myself from eating it straight out of the jug....
