Tuna Bake for Kids with Hidden Veg

Ingredients

Pasta

  • 300 g pasta
  • 2 clove garlic
  • 1 onion
  • 400-500g mixed vegetables, see notes
  • 80 g Butter
  • 50 g plain flour
  • 300 g Milk
  • 100 g grated cheese
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable stock paste
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 1 large tin of tuna in springwater

Topping

  • 150-200 g grated cheese, tasty, parmesan, mozzarella etc
  • 2 handfuls corn flakes, roughly crushed

Recipe's preparation

    Pasta Prep
  1. 1. Preheat oven to 180 deg.

     

    2. Add pasta to ThermoServer and cover with boiling water from the kettle. Replace lid and set aside.

     

    3. Add garlic and onion to TM bowl and chop - 3 sec/speed 6.

     

    4. Add mixed vegetables and chop 3 seconds/speed 5.

     

    5. Add 40g of butter and saute - 5 min/Varoma temp/speed 1.

     

    6. Add remaining butter, flour, milk, cheese, stock and lemon juice to TM bowl and cook - 7 min/90deg/speed 3.

     

    **In the meantime, drain pasta and place into large oven dish.

     

    7. Once sauce is finished, hand stir in the tuna and pour over pasta. Mix well.

     

    8. Top with cornflakes first, then extra grated cheese and bake for 20-25 min or until golden on top.

Tip

I use whatever veggies I have in the fridge, but as a guide, these work well: brocolli, mushroom, carrot, zucchini, celery and corn.

    Love this simple recipe. I often make as is and sometimes make the sauce only without the tuna and lemon and freeze it for future meals. Today I’ve used this sauce in place of white sauce in lasagne. Great recipe. Thank you

    I was sceptical of this, especially with all the veg, but my 2 and 5 year old boys didn’t even notice!!! Best tuna bake ever! I’ll only now make this “healthier” version loaded with veg tmrc_emoticons.;) I only had carrot zuchini celery and pumpkin - it was super!

     I made bread crumbs first and grated cheese and put aside, I used sour dough bread instead of cornflake.  I used corn flour. Also doubled the recipe.  Love the flavours. Toddler and teenages loved this

    Wow! This recipe is so easy and the flavour better than anything I have tasted in a tuna bake! I have just received my thermoserver so this was the first time of using it. How easy to cook pasta in it! This recipe is great!

    I have made this week in and out for a while now. My 3 y.o loves it and eats it till it's all gone. I love that he's getting his veggies and doesn't complain or throw it at me lol. That's heaps for this recipe I love, love, love it. And hubby and I don't mind it every now and then too

    This was a huge hit - I haven't made a tuna bake in years but my tuna hating husband had it for dinner and lunch and my veg phobic toddler gobbled it up! Definitely will put this on our menu plan.

    Oh and I was loving the pasta cooking method - its the first time I've used the thermoserver and gosh it works a treat - so convenient and easy!

    This worked out really well, I only added the cheese as a topping no cornflakes and didnt add any cheese into pasta mixture. Definitely still cheesy enough!

    For a tuna bake it was really good. The cheese veg sauce could be used for anything and instead of tuna when I had leftovers i added bacon.
