For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

The idea of doing this recipe in the TM is a good one however more thought needs to go into the timing and flavour. I sliced the onions and cooked them a little longer than 20 minutes with some spices as I wanted them to caramelised well. I then added the lentils as stated here and thought that 20 minutes on their own, and then another 20 minutes with the rice is far too much. So I actually cooked them for 15 minutes. I used stock rather than just water. More flavour. When I mixed in the washed rice, I added a little bit more water to reach the 1L mark and put it on for 10 minutes which was halfway through the instructions. I stirred the rice and lentils and realized it was all cooked. Given that the stock was already boiling and that the little extra bit of cold water added would not have made that much difference to the temperature of the stock the rice only took another 10 minutes to cook through. Generally speaking Rice takes about 17 to 20 minutes, but most of that time is taken in heating up the cold water to boiling point. So I suggest you check the rice halfway and then determine whether it needs further cooking.

We had the Mjadra with beautifully marinated, poached chicken and a salad, and I must say it was delicious. So thank you very much for the idea. 😊
