  • 500 g potatoes, peeled & quartered (approx 3 large)
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 egg
  • salt & pepper / seasoning to taste

Recipe's preparation

    Hash Browns
  1. Place potato into mixing bowl and chop 2 sec/speed 5-6.

    2.  Scrape potato into basket and use MC to press the liquid into the sink.

    3.  Place drained potato into mixing bowl.

    4.  Add flour, egg and seasoning and mix 5 sec/speed 4.

    5.  Coat a frypan and egg rings in oil and heat on high.

    6.  Add a heaped tablespoon of potato mix to each egg ring and press to flatten out the mix to the edges of the ring.

    7.  Reduce heat and cook a few minutes each side until brown. Slide a knife around the inside of the egg ring to remove hash brown (if necessary) and place on paper towel or in low oven to keep warm.

These are just like commercial hash browns and are so simple and quick to make.

Great for young kids and they can be made ahead and reheated in the oven.

I made these tonight to have with steak. I subbed half the potato weight for sweet potato and only had egg whites on hand. Turned out beautifully and the kids and hubby loved them (always a bonus!)

    Thanks for a great recipe!

    Submitted by madgec on 12. November 2016 - 12:12.

These are great. We don't eat eggs and they work fine with chia seed eggs (1 tbsp chia seed + 2-3 tbsp warm water, sit for 5 mins and it forms a gel)

Worked perfectly,  couldnt fault the process.  I may try and add a shallot or two next time for a different flavour but thats not a cristism of the recipe.

  • Made a double batch of these

    Submitted by Quinnykids on 25. June 2016 - 18:01.

Made a double batch of these tonight to accompany salmon.  A very easy recipe and they taste like commercial ones.  I didn't peel the potatoes and used a nut bag to squeeze the extra liquid out.  Far less messy than using the steaming basket.  I also cooked them free form on the Weber, so I did them in one go. Little man loves hash browns so these are on the to do again list tmrc_emoticons.)

    Super yum and super easy....

I didn't bother peeling the spuds (extra goodness) and found these to be a quick, healthy lunch snack for my kids. I did some in rings and some free form and both ways were easy peasy  tmrc_emoticons.)

Found these a bit heavy as the centre didn't cook through properly. Unsure if I made them too thick (about 1cm) though. Might be that the potatoes I used weren't suitable for the recipe too.

Made these last night - they were lovely with our lamb cutlets and other vegies! I loved using my large silicone egg rings to make put them to good use and helped to make them nice and thick, but I would add to anyone reading this recipe, that they would have been fine without if you were after a thinner style hash brown/rosti and obviously cook faster tmrc_emoticons.)
