  • 1 brown onion, small
  • 1 carrot, medium
  • 1 Swede, small or half
  • 1 turnip, small or half
  • 1 potato, medium
  • 2 heaped tablespoons pearl barley
  • 100 grams tomato sauce
  • 100 grams Vegemite®
  • 120 grams Worcestershire sauce, homemade
  • 500 grams Lamb, butterfly forequarter or any chops
  • 1 frozen peas, 1/2 cup
  • 1 frozen corn kernels, 1/2 cup

      For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

Recipe's preparation

    Prepare vegetables
  1. Add quartered onion to thermomix bowl, chop 3 sec speed 7.
    put in bowl and set aside.
  2. Set up cutter attachment
    Thickly grate
    Carrot, swede, turnip and potato.
  3. Add onion and grated vegetables to mixing bowl.
    Add pearl barley.
  4. Dice lamb (i do approx 2-3cm squares) and add to mixing bowl.
  5. Add tomato sauce, worcestershire sauce and vegemite.
    Fill with water to maximum level.
    Then cook, with simmering basket on lid instead of measuring cup 30min, 100deg, reverse speed 1.
  6. Once cooked, add peas and corn and stir through with spatula.

    Ladle into bowls and serve with crusty bread.

Tip

You'll need thermomix cutter to grate vegetables.

Makes a good amount, serves between 6-8.

If you like heat from worcestershire, add another 30-50grams.

This soup is a great winter warmer but can be enjoyed anytime.
This soup reminds me of my Nans house, the smell is amazing.
