lexibakes: It comes already made in a can, like tinned fruit but its tinned apple. Bizzarely it's not in the supermarket with the other tins of fruit, I think its in the baking aisle???

This is an easy afternoon tea treat. I have made it with poached rhubarb and apple, apple alone, and with vanilla essence in the dough. Now a family favourite! Thanks for sharing.

Simple recipe, tasted great. Had lots of compliments when baked for work. I melted the butter and added 2 tablesppons of vanilla extract, and I think this helped to create a runnier batter to be able to pour - still a little like pancake batter but was fine to pour (the top layer was more of a drizzle from the bowl so I managed to cover it all easily without having to smooth it over the apples). I also used about 600-750 grams of steamed apple from the varoma and was great. I also sprinkled vanilla sugar on the apple layer, and I sprinkled with a thick layer of icing sugar on the finished product once cooled and cut.

What a disaster!  I found the mixture to thick to spread and also added some milk. Couldn't spread the second layer on top of Apple so swirled it through. Hopefully it will taste better than it looks  tmrc_emoticons.). I think some more detailed instructions would have been better for us newbies.
