I used medjool dates as I didn’t have dried and halved the Maple syrup, mine weren’t oily at all. Nice flavours with the spices. I didn’t roll in sugar mix and they were nicely sweet 😜

Kids said “OMG these are AMAZEBALLS”.
I also found the mixture very oily. I refrigerated for a few hours, then squeezed as much oil out as I could before rolling them. Rolled the balls on the bench on paper towel to soak up extra oil. Very delish!

These tasted delicious but were certainly oily! I would recommend refrigerating them for 30 mins to make them more workable. Loved the tip about the bag and rolling them in the cinnamon sugar. Plenty of room for variations with nuts and syrups tmrc_emoticons.)

Lovely balance of flavours in these. I had everything in my pantry and used walnuts. I only had medjool dates which contributed to a very wet mix. I'll try dried dates next time and keep this batch in the freezer.

  • These could become salted

    Submitted by Kruisy on 20. August 2015 - 19:39.

These could become salted caramel bliss balls... I think increase salt to 1/2tsp of salt flakes and add for last 10s of mixing.  Don't roll in cinnamon sugar and keep maple syrup as is.  The longer you mix the more like nut butter it becomes.  If you add salt early on it gets blended in and you don't taste the "salted" vs "sweet" contrast.  Yummy!

    Submitted by heidi_hi on 16. June 2015 - 10:44.

These are an interesting change to the usual bliss balls I make.... but I did find them to be very very sweet (good in that I won't eat too many but a bit too sweet for my toddler).

I'd reduce or omit the maple syrup next time so they aren't as sickly.

    Submitted by Lillo on 30. March 2015 - 15:05.

Lovely nibble when one requires a sweet hit!!! Incredibally fast recipe to make. Wonderful flavour. Stopped chopping and mixing at the first 20 second mark as I prefer rougher texture to a smooth consistency (a matter of personal taste), also rolled/coated in coconut instead of cinnamon sugar. Thanks for the recipe.

    Submitted by ChannellingMartha on 17. December 2014 - 16:23.

Really impressed with these treats.  It does make you realise how much oil is in nuts but atleast it is a healthier fat than animal fats.  I am finding that these are wonderful treats to have on hand and think that they will make a nice addition to the Christmas table.

  • I made these for the first

    Submitted by ThermoNixer on 4. November 2014 - 12:40.

I made these for the first time this morning.  Could not believe how much oil came out and how warm they were.  One I managet to roll them and clean up the oil that splashed everywhere I was pretty happy with the results.  I didn't want to roll them in sugar given the sweetness from the dates so I blitzed together coconut and cinnamon and rolled in that.  They were yummy but a bit oily for me.

  • Made these for the first time

    Submitted by jecarrick on 27. October 2014 - 16:57.

Made these for the first time today for a sweet and 'kind of but not really healthy' treat!  They were yummy, I used walnuts and only had the 'fake' maple syrup.  Like others I found they were super oily when I went to roll them, next time I would probably use all raw cashews as this time I had half raw and half roasted and I think the roasted ones might produce more oil.  I would also only mix the mixture maybe twice as I think the more you combine the more oils are released.  Either way I just squeezed it all out as I rolled them and then sat them on absorbant paper for awhile and this seems to have helped.  Coated in the cinnamon sugar as well which made them look nice.  Would make again.

    Submitted by The_Mae_Fish on 26. October 2014 - 21:47.

These have a delicious texture and flavour. Perfect to satisfy my post dinner sweet craving.

But I was horrified by the amount of excess oil not only in the bowl but also streaming down my arms while I was rolling them!! The mix also became quite hot towards the end, even though there was no heat involved! I'm hoping that means there's less bad stuff left inside them!! In saying that, I will be making these again!!
