Tip

The condensed milk will thicken considerably as it cools. If you need to use it straight away cook it longer to the thickness you require.

The milk will be a darker caramely colour if you use raw sugar as seen in the picture.

I use a soft silicon spatula to get more of the condensed milk out of the bowl.

If you forget to put the butterfly in like I often do, just mix all the ingredients for a few seconds then add the butterfly.

Will last up to 4 weeks in a sealed container in the fridge.

  • I have just made it now- I

    Submitted by Kirrilly on 21. June 2016 - 14:20.

I have just made it now- I will see how thick it is on cooling but at this stage I didn't use hot water (I like mine filtered), I wasn't careful about adding ingredients ( no where near full) , I didn't use the butterfly or basket on top (something else to wash) ... and I heard it thicken with 3 minutes left (6mins of cooking) .

    I'm happy so far!

  • Love this recipe! Soo easy!

    Submitted by Mummzy_Melsy on 6. March 2016 - 21:52.

Love this recipe! Soo easy! I won't be buying condensed milk again. I only use 300gm sugar and it turns out fine. Kids don't notice the difference between store brought and this recipe. It's a winner in this family. Was runny when removed from thermie but defintely thickens on cooling.

Thank you! Just made the equivalent of 4 tins of condensed milk in 12 minutes using organic rapidura. So happy to be able to use this in slices for the kids lunch boxes rather than tinned condensed milk.
