Recipe is created for
TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

Recipe's preparation
1. Place flour, salt and butter in the TM and mix, 5 seconds/speed 5
2. Add golden syrup, egg and milk. Mix 10 seconds/speed 4.
3. Scrape down sides and mix again 10 seconds/speed 4.
4. Place 6-12 dessertspoonfuls of mixture into the top Varoma tray, leaving a gap between each to allow for spreading. Set aside.
1. Add all the syrup ingredients to TM (Do not clean bowl after making dumplings)
2. Place Varoma with dumplings into position and cook Varoma/15minutes/speed 1.
3. Place dumplings in serving bowls, pour sauce over each and serve.
4. May be served with cream if desired.

Tip
It's best not to clean the TM bowl between making the dumplings and syrup as the flour mix helps to thicken the sauce.
The sauce should also be fairly runny so it can soak into the dumplings when serving.
based on feedback received I'd suggest using white SR flour only so the dumplings are lighter and rise nicely

I should have read the comments before making these. I ended up adding a lot more flour, then had to mix more which then made them too rubbery. They looked undercooked so I cooked them for longer which then they were over cooked (which was my fault). There wasn’t as much sauce as I would usually make so next time I’d probably double it.

Delicious! Came out well.
Delicious!
Came out well. Only issue was too much dumpling batter: I couldn't fit all dumplings in varoma tray in one lot (maybe I made them too small?) but their size was just right as they cooked beautifully. Also there wasn't as much sauce as I'd usually make for the quantity of dumplings. So I just made a second batch of sauce and cooked up the rest of the batter into extra dumpling at the same time.
These were delicious & turned
These were delicious & turned out pretty much perfectly for me. I did use mini silicon muffin moulds to put half the mixture in just to see the difference in shape. They kept their shape much nicer using the moulds. Very yummy though & so quick & easy!!
Not the greatest recipe!
Not the greatest recipe! Ended up scooping the mix out of the veroma and cooking on the stove top after multiple times in the thermo for lots of 10 mins. Can I suggest a rework of the recipe there seems to be a lot of people having issues?!
Very nice, i dropped the milk
Very nice, i dropped the milk to 80grams and increased the the flour by 20 grams and cooked for 17 mins perfect.....super delicious and hubby was looking for more.

Loved the flavour of the syrup. I had to cook the dumplings for longer on speed 3 as didn't cook first up. Very enjoyable with vanilla custard.
hi, thanks for the feedback.
hi, thanks for the feedback. when you make the dumpling batter remember to use self raising flour. also, the mix should be pretty dry so if it wasn't and the batters turned out flat like pancakes maybe you dont need to add all the milk. check out the 2nd photo attached to the recipe - it shows the dumplings before they're cooked to give you an idea of how they should look.good luck with your next attempt, i hope they rise
These are delicious! Cooked
These are delicious! Cooked dumplings an extra 2 mins on speed 2 and that made the sauce nice and gooey. Only wish there was a way to tweek the dumpling ingredients so they actually resemble balls not a pancake worth the experiment!

Hi ally84, there's definitely no need to line the tray, just make sure your dough is fairly stiff.
this reply is a little late but I hope you still give them a go and let me know how they turn out...good luck!
Almost wonderful!
Almost wonderful! Unfortunately, despite making 12 dumplings, most remained uncooked inside. Very tasty though. Cleaning up was so difficult! Next time I'll try on speed 3 instead.
Hi, I am wanting to make
Hi, I am wanting to make these tonight for dessert but was wondering if you need to using baking paper in the varoma tray? Or do you just spoon the mixture straight on to the tray?
Thanks
The sauce was delicious, nice
The sauce was delicious, nice and thick. However we had no dumplings to have it with. They didn't rise at all and were just a sloppy mess! I'm thinking perhaps the milk measurement is too much? I hope we can get it right!
hi CasDelicious, sorry you
hi CasDelicious, sorry you had no luck with this recipe, obviously there's something not right with my instructions. I'll cook it again and see what can be improved. thanks for the feedback.
Not sure what happened
Not sure what happened here... my first thermo fail!
Dumplings didn't rise & didn't cook through. Had to bin it.
Hi, thanks for the feedback.
Hi, thanks for the feedback. I think it maybe important not to clean the TM bowl in between making the dumplings and the syrup because the flour helps to thicken the sauce. I'll adjust the recipe to reflect this. Not sure why your dumplings didn't rise though, I've never had that happen before...
Not sure what happened, but
Not sure what happened, but the sauce was just sugary water instead of nicely thick and gooey. The dumplings also didn't rise but I did use Wholemeal SR flour so this may have been a factor.
