Tip

you can sterilize a few jars by putting a small amount ( 2 cm) water in the jar and putting the microwave for 2 min. This boils the water and the steam does the rest of the jar. The boiling water from each jar can be poured on the lids. Use tongs to handle jars as they will be hot.

Used golden syrup, 1 x chilli chopped, 140gm raw sugar And 2 fresh mangoes. Smells delicious, can’t wait to try it. It is definitely a winner. Tasty on sourdough with a slice of cheese.
Sterilized the jars in the varoma x 15 mins. Let cool slightly before filling with chutney.

Delicious! Thanks for a great recipe. I didn't quite have enough mango so made up the extra with a ripe banana. I enjoy it on toast with sliced cheese. Looking forward to making this again. 😊

  • I left out the pimento.

    Submitted by ktastrid on 9. February 2016 - 09:21.

I left out the pimento.  Added 100 g of dates and reduced sugar by 100g.  Next time I'd use a better vinegar. The one that I used was a bit harsh.  I also chopped for a few seconds after adding the sultanas and dates because the dates were whole and my kids aren't fond of the whole sultanas.  It came out a desirable consistency.

  • If the jars are sealed they

    Submitted by moreta on 21. December 2015 - 12:46.

If the jars are sealed they keep for years. If not the fridge would be ok for months. It is fully sterilized in the cooking. Whole cloves would be fine. Just remember when you use it the cloves will give a bigger hit to the bite but should be fine.Probably use similar weight but a bit one way or the other will just slightly modify the clove tase.

    enjoy

Hi, I will be making this in a few days for Christmas. Just a question though - how long can it be stored in jars, and once opened how long would you keep for? Thanks tmrc_emoticons.)
Also, could I use whole cloves instead of powdered ones?

Had a tray of mangoes that desperately needed to be used so made this.  Was absolutely awesome!  Loved it, will definitely put this on the Xmas list to make as prezzies!   As others said, I didn't have treacle so used golden syrup and used apple cider vinegar.  We love chilli, so I put in a teaspoon of chilli, plus a little ground chilli

But my kids got sick of them and I had 4 left, so I used them in this) Tastes fantastic with a bit of Cheese on crackers! MMMMMM. All finished and about to take it to some friends as gifts...

  • The only liquid is 150 grams

    Submitted by moreta on 6. January 2015 - 19:58.

The only liquid is 150 grams of vinegar. I do not know how you got a liquid chutney. Ther is no setting as there would be with jam but cooking will reduce any liquid in the mix and that is the results.Sorry but I cannot really help with the information you give.

Kandis and the rest. A confession. I seldom make anything exactly like the recipe every time. Less sugar is a real positive as far as I am concerned. I often use raw sugar for all of the sugar. Brown sugar sounds great.

This was beautiful. Strayed from recipe a bit & it still turned out lovely. Put less sugar in and put a couple of spoons of brown sugar in also. Didn't have pimento. Put some all spice in. Put a little extra mango in. So glad it still tastes great. Thank you tmrc_emoticons.)
