Super moist, quick and easy to make. I always leave out the cochineal and only use 220g of sugar. Great as a cake or cupcakes and i don't even need to ice it ... its a massive hit in our house!

Super easy chocolate cake. I used cacao powder and only 170g sugar and omitted the cochineal. Baked in a round tin and topped with the ganache from the BCB. My dad, who usually doesn't eat cake, had a second serve! Thanks for a great recipe!

    Submitted by Showy on 14. January 2018 - 16:03.

I love how everything’s together and you mix it all at once. It was drier up the top but moist down from that. I don’t like to share it so I didn’t mention it when the mother and father in law turned up. I did not have cochineal. I did not have cocoa and it still worked with nesquik. And I used soy milk. Oh yeah, the second slice was with a mixture of peanuts and cashews and this was nice too. The sugar was reduced. This was more like a pudding than a cake.

OMG! This Cake was fantastic and so easy that I made two and put them together with butter cream icing and topped with chocolate Ganache (didn't think there was enough Ganache) but when eaten together it was perfect and moist. This is now my go to Chocolate Cake. Thank you Tracey Purdy.

i followed the recipe, dropped the sugar to 200g as per other suggestions... I even cooked the cake for 10 mins less.. I usually cook on 180 but did 190 as per the recipe..
mine looked amazing but it was the dryest cake I've ever made.. I was so disappointed as I made this one based on the fantastic reviews..

    Submitted by lyndandy on 12. September 2016 - 20:51.

Made this last night for husbands work colleague birthday, i was unable to ice it as I had run out of sugar, and had no cream for a ganache, I was able to sprinkle with a little icing sugar to make it look pretty and it was still a massive hit, unfortunately I didn't get to try it! So I'll have to make it again, it will definitely be a go to recipe as it was so easy, thank you.

    Submitted by nadz on 9. September 2016 - 06:57.

Best chocolate cake ever.  I didn't use the cochineal, however I also added Hazelnut essence.  I reduced the sugar content to 200g too. I also made chocolate ganache topping (250gram choc bits & 90ml cream) and there wasn't a crumb left. Excellent cake recipe, thank you.

    Submitted by mellietopaz on 3. August 2015 - 11:02.

Awesome cake, best traditional non-mud cake I've made in ages, all the others get so dry, this tastes perfect, even a few days after baking. Still stays moist. I'll try using for cupcakes as well. I only used 250g of golden caster sugar (was all I had) it was still pretty sweet, I'll try 200 next time. Thanks for posting!
