I made this but found that it was a bit bland, I didn't use the vegemite though so this could have been the issue.
I added a tablespoon of vege stock and a couple of tablespoons of tomato paste (as that is what I had handy) and then it was fine.
The sauce/gravy is a great consistancy.
Put mashed potato on top as I had no pastry.

We really enjoyed it! Didn't have white pepper so just cracked in some black pepper, and also added bacon (because why not). Was very easy and delicious.
Very yummy left out
Very yummy left out vegimite and salt as i accidently added another tbsp of soy sauce lol and i used dried thyme instead of parsley as i love it with steak, added a beef stock cube and a bit of water, carrots, capsicum and corn will be making again.. thank you!
Many thanks
This was sooooooooooo
This was sooooooooooo yummy!!!! Went down an absolute treat with my whole family including my Mum who was visiting. My daughter couldn't believe there was vegemite in there, funny, but she loved it!!! Have a add to my fav's, def be a regular here!!
A bit too salty. Will leave
A bit too salty. Will leave out salt and use less Vegemite and soy sauce. But otherwise great!
We found this a lovely recipe
We found this a lovely recipe to addapt to our own tastes. Used ground black pepper instead of white, 1/2tbs vegemite and also used maybe 400g steak and 200g-ish of mince - YUM
Thanks for cooking...Kazza
I used 500g premium beef
I used 500g premium beef mince and reduced the Vegemite to 1tsp and salt to 1/4tsp. Still a little salty for me. Next time I will skip the salt completely & add an extra tablespoon of cornflour as the mince (i assume) made the mixture a little runnier than I would've liked.
I aldo used a pie maker and ready made shortcrust/puff pastry for the bottom and top respectively.
Good recipe.
Delicious. I used eye fillet
Delicious. I used eye fillet & left out both the vegemite & the salt & it was perfect for us. The meat was so tender & the gravy was great, definitely salty enough without the two ingredients I omitted.
I'll be making this one again!
ok so I am one of those
ok so I am one of those people that change recipes all the time, what I wanted was a way to use up some bbq steak that we had left over from a party, already cooked med/rare
So this recipe was PERFECT!
I made the sauce and omitted the adding the meat part of this recipe, (i did halve the vegemite but everything else was the exact)
Once the sauce was done I mixed it in with the chopped up pre-cooked bbq steak, then went about making pies.
I am also lazy so I used shortcrust pastry on the bottom of the pies and puff pastry sheets on top.
We had loads of steaks left over and a couple of our kids don’t like mushrooms so I did a second batch of this and substituted the mushrooms with fresh tomatoes (I did not add the wine as I thought any extra liquid would be a bad idea!) again added the pre-cooked meat to the finished sauce.
Each batch made one family sized pie and four small pies, which I was going to freeze but they were devoured for school lunches and dinners instead!
Loved by the whole family, even the fussy eater asked for seconds and one to take to school for lunch!
thank you for sharing
Delicious I couldn't be
Delicious I couldn't be happier with this recipe but I put shortcrust on the bottom puff on top
Very rich flavour. Made
Very rich flavour. Made recipe with no alterations (no parsley) but it is a very rich flavour. It is saucy so you could easily add in extra veges. Will make again but with less Vegemite, no salt, etc.
i didnt serve in pastry, instead I served in ramekins with sweet potato mash as a healthier option.
Well I was detirmed to make
Well I was detirmed to make my first meat pie! I didn't have any mushrooms but... doesn't matter. White pepper? Don't even have any...doesn't matter. Worcestershire? Ran out last week so I used BBQ sauce. I also added a heaped table spoon of tomotoe paste. Beef fillet? I'll try a cheaper cut. I bought chuck steak. Never used that before. Cooked as per recipe...10 minutes. Taste test...better keep cooking. Another 10 and yep another 10! Taste test.... yumo. Then I poured it into my pastry pie and then covered it...and into the oven. Made some mash and OMG! What a sensational dish. Pie was delish and perfect with the mash.
This was wayyyyy too salty
This was wayyyyy too salty for us & that's without adding the salt & only using half the amount of Vegemite. Maybe If I tweak it like some others have done it'll be enjoyable

Delish and easy!!!
I didn't add the salt, reduced vegemite and added tsp of tomato paste and a little bacon. No red so used white wine, was beautiful.. Next time may put beef in 1/2 way through cooking gravy as was cooked through then it had another blast in oven.

One of the nicest pies we've had. Loved the gravy! Also used white wine as we had no red but that was the only change. Made one family pie and it was delicious. Will definitely be doing this one again. Thanks so much for sharing.
I really liked this but found
I really liked this but found it too salty. so next time i will half the vegemite and not worry about salt, used cracked pepper and non alcoholic white wine (all i had) had no parsley either. Otherwise yum. Husband liked it and for a man who usually drowns his meals in tomato sauce there was none in sight!! thanks; very quick and easy

sorry you are disappointed
sorry you are disappointed with the recipe.
We like lots of pepper in our pies, however I will change the recipe ASAP to minimal white pepper for those non lovers, I didn't realize it was that strong.
I've just made these taking
I've just made these taking into account the previous feedback, I put in about half a teaspoon of pepper and they are delicious! (I'm not a big pepper fan anyway)
pehaps if Alysha can amend the recipe it'll be helpful to others, I will definitely be making these again.
Very disappointed There must
Very disappointed There must have been a typo with the white pepper...1.5 tablespoons
We ended up scraping the meat and gravy off the pastry and having a pastry dinner. It was so peppery that I couldn't even tell if it had potential as a pie! Won't be making this one again unfortunately
