      TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

Recipe's preparation

  1. Fill bowl with 1L of boiling water

Place potatoes into the simmering basket and fit into the bowl

Cook for 25-30 min 100 degrees speed 2.5 - make sure they are cooked until they break away, very soft

Use the spatula to remove the simmering basket and set aside.

Place milk, butter and salt into the bowl and heat for 1 minute, 100 degrees speed 2, m/c on

Insert butterfly and tip the potatoes into the bowl

Tip

Heating the milk and butter aids in keeping the mash from going gluey.

Also the more cooked the potatoes are and less you whip it the fluffier it will be.

For a dairy free alternative use 100g of coconut cream and leave out the butter.

    Submitted by Akelleher on 21. March 2020 - 19:42.

    Fantastic recipe and no lumps.
my husband usually whinges because the mash is too runny, like glue or too lumpy.
he usually likes doing his still over the stove top
he had nothing to complain about because it was perfect.
this will be my go to recipe from now on.

Fantastic - I’ve always had bad results manually mashing potatoes. It’s my partners nightmare when I suggest mash! I’ve never had a bad result with this recipe - so easy, smooth & creamy EVERY time. Thanks for sharing 👌🏻

I must have made a serious error in following this recipie, I seem to have potato soup instead of mashed potato.
Are you supposed to tip out the water before you add the milk and butter?
Will have to give it another go see if I can get it to work.

So glad I found this recipe, my family were ready for me to give up on thermomixed mashed potato - first recipe was inedible (except the chickens loved it) the second was like soup, so we poured it over our vegetable. This recipe is fantastic, light and fluffy mash every time.

Hi PennyJames, if you like sugar in your mash then absolutely go for it tmrc_emoticons.)  I am studying nutritional and dietetic medicine and personally limit sugar in my diet, but am also a firm bebeliver in 80/20, you have to feed your soul too, and if that includes a little sugar in your mash, then go for it, I say tmrc_emoticons.)
