For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

Recipe's preparation

    Method
  1. 1. Preheat oven to 200C.

    2. Place the halved onion pieces inside the Thermomix bowl and chop on speed 8 for 2 seconds (MC ON). Repeat if necessary (depending on how you prefer your onions).

    3. Put chopped onion aside in a bowl.

    4. Roughly chop up bacon into 3-4 pieces with a knife, add this to the bowl, selecting speed 4 for 2-3 seconds (MC ON). Repeat if necessary (chop to your preferred consistency).

    5. Put chopped bacon aside - you can use the same bowl as the onion.

    6. Put various roughly chopped vegetables into the Thermomix bowl - carrot/celery/zucchini etc and chop for 1 second on speed 4 (MC ON) - check for preferred consistency.

    7. Remove chopped vegetables aside into a bowl (you can use the same bowl as the onion and bacon if size allows).

    8. Without cleaning the bowl, add the butter into the Thermomix bowl and cook for 30 seconds on 50 degrees, speed 3 to melt (MC OFF).

    9. Add the butterfly whisk into the Thermomix, checking that it is seated correctly.

    10. Into the melted butter inside the bowl, add the eggs, milk and flour (if you don't have self-raising flour, use 1 tsp of baking powder to 1/2 cup of plain flour).

    11. Whisk on speed 4 for 10 seconds (MC ON).

    12. Remove the whisk, then pour in the reserved bacon, onions and vegetables, as well as the grated cheese (you can also grate your cheese before commencing this recipe).

    13. Mix on Reverse, Counter-clockwise operation speed 3 for about 15 seconds to combine well (MC OFF). You can check the consistency as it combines.

    14. Pour the mixture into a round baking dish lined with baking paper, or a greased dish if you prefer.

    15. You may wish to add a further sprinkling of grated cheese on top, or herbs, depending on your personal preference.

    16. Cook for around 30-40 minutes - checking for a well-browned top. Err on the side of well-cooked rather than undercooked for best results.

    17. Serve on its own, or with salad.
