Gluten Free Sausage Rolls

12 portion(s)

  • 200 grams potato
  • 600 grams water
  • 150 grams Gluten free plain flour
  • 1 tsp xantham gum
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 60 grams Labna/Cream Cheese, room temp
  • 60 grams Butter, room temp

  • 250 grams Gluten Free Sausage mince
  • 1 large onion, quartered
  • 2 carrots, roughly sliced
  • 1 zuchinni, roughly sliced

Recipe's preparation

  1. Place peeled and roughly diced potato into basket.

Put basket and water into bowl and cool Varoma/Sp3/20 mins or until potato is cooked.

Set aside for 5 - 10 mins to cool potato.

Empty water out of bowl and put cooled potato into bowl.

Mash potato, sp4/15 sec. Scrape down and repeat intil potato is smooth.

    Add all other pastry ingredients.

Speed 4/15 sec until roughly formed

    Scrape down bowl if necessary

    Speed 6/20 sec.

Remove from bowl, wrap in plastic and set aside in fridge.

It does roll better when chilled.

  3. Place onion, carrot and zuchinni into bowl and chop sp5/ 15 sec (or to desired consistency)

Put vegetable mixture into basket and strain/squeeze out excess liquid.

Put mince and vegetables into a seperate bowl and mix by hand.

  5. Pre-heat 220* oven

Portion pastry dough into manageable portions (I do 3 and once each is rolled out i cut into 2 stips to form sausage rolls)

Roll out onto floured board. floured silicone mat, i use a combination of rolling and pressing with my hands to get desired shape and thickness. More flour may be required throughout rolling to ensure pastry doesn't stick and can be rolled easily.

Place sausage mixture onto pastry and roll.

Place sausage roll, join side down onto lined oven tray.

Brush with milk or egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds if you wish.

Cook for 20 - 25 mins until pastry is cooked

  6. Pastry recipe is based on a recipe on Kitchenaid website

Accessories you need

I put the sausage mixture into a ziplock bag, cut the corner off and use like a piping bag when putting the mixture on the pastry

  • The most amazing GF pastry ever! It actually...

The most amazing GF pastry ever! It actually rolls! And bends! And you can touch it and play with it! Made mine dairy free, using vegan cream (Natura) and Nuttelex Buttery. Put a little gravy mix (Gravox Traditional - gluten free and fructose friendly) in the sausage, and left out the onion. Made it really meaty and yum.

  • Brilliant pastry - my gluten

    Submitted by Mummytops on 22. April 2015 - 20:04.

Brilliant pastry - my gluten friendly family have a sausage roll from our local bakery sometimes on the weekend and love them... But they loved these, and I've been asked to make more - always a good sign. For myself, not having had a sausage roll for a few years now, WOW!  The kids ate them cold for school lunch even and were very happy. I changed the filling as I'm a bit wary of sausage mince, but this pastry was brilliant! (I used The Shrinking Hubby's sausage roll recipe just for the filling)

Made with lamb mince. Happy with the pastry and added extra vegies. They were a hit by both GF and non-GF people. Thanks

  • Yummy. The pastry is great to

Yummy. The pastry is great to roll out, I had it in the fridge over night. I would use egg rather than milk to brush over as I think it would give a nicer finish.  I shall be cooking these again.

  • I made these sausage rolls

    Submitted by BlingFish on 5. April 2014 - 20:23.

I made these sausage rolls tonight and they turned out great!  The pastry was a little hard to roll and split a little (which I'd expect for gluten free) but cooked perfectly in 20 minutes in the oven and had a lovely taste and texture.  I made a double batch of the pastry using the same cooking/mixing times and it was great.

I just used regular mince, so the filling was a bit bland and I cooked it in the tmx before baking as I didn't want to risk any uncooked in the sausage rolls.  Next time I'll use sausage mince, or will add some more flavourings to the mince.

Will definitely be making these again.
