Christmas waffles with dark chocolate Cointreau pouring sauce


  • 1 --- orange peel
  • 150 grams self-raising flour
  • 1 level tsp brown sugar
  • 1 level tsp baking powder
  • 1 heaped teaspoons cinnamon, Ceylon
  • 1 --- egg
  • 1 level tsp vanilla essence
  • 250 grams Milk

Dark Chocolate Cointreau Pouring Sauce

  • 1 --- orange, Zest and Juice
  • 1/2 level tsp cinnamon, Ceylon
  • 200 grams Dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
  • 3 level tablespoons cream
  • 1 level tablespoons Cointreau

Recipe's preparation

  1. Turn waffle maker on to high and spray with non stick oil.
    Peel orange into thermomix and zest for 5seconds speed 10.
    Add SF Flour, Sugar, Cinnamon and baking powder. Blend for 5 seconds speed 6.
    Scrape sides and bottom and insert whisk.
    Add the egg, vanilla essence and milk.
    Blend for 30 seconds speed 4.
    Ladel waffle batter into waffle machine and bake for around 3 minutes or until waffles are golden and crispy.
  2. Chocolate Sauce
  3. Peel orange into thermomix and zest for 5 seconds speed 10.
    Take out 1 teaspoon zest to use for garnish later.
    Add orange juice, cinnamon, dark chocolate, cream and cointreau.
    Combine for 2 minutes 80degrees speed 2.
    Scrape sides and bottom and combine for one minute, 100 degrees speed 2.
    Once waffles are cooked, pour over with chocolate sauce and decorate with whipped cream and reserved orange zest.
