Strawberry jam with steamed bread

1 jar(s)

Strawberry Jam

  • 500 g strawberries
  • 1 apple
  • 1 half lemon juiced
  • 150 g raw sugar

Steamed bread

  • 150 g water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoon dried yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 160 g wheat
  • 160 g plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Recipe's preparation

    Steamed bread preparation
  1. Place wheat into the bowl and mill 1min/sp10, set aside

Put water, sugar and yeast into TM bowl and stir 1min/37deg/sp1

Add egg, flours, and salt and knead 2min

Oil varoma dish if not using a loaf tin. If using a loaf tin, oil the tin.

If not using loaf tin - Remove dough and form into loaf shape and place in varoma leaving holes free for steam to come through.

If using loaf tin - Remove dough and place in loaf tin.

  2. Strawberry jam
  3. Hull strawberries and chop roughly and add to bowl.

Core apple and chop roughly (leave skin on) and add to bowl.

Add lemon juice and sugar to bowl.

  4. Tie it all together
  5. Place varoma with loaf in it on top of the bowl and steam 35min/varoma/sp1.5

Turn bread onto a board or cooling rack. Allow the bread to cool before slicing

Check how well jam is set by placing 1 tsp of jam on a plate and putting it in the freezer for 5 minutes.  After 5 minutes, if you run your finger through the jam, it should stay separate.  If too runny, cook at varoma for 5 minutes - repeat until correct consistency is reached.

If you don't have wheat to mill into flour you can just use plain flour in it's place.

Seeds and grains can be easily added into this bread to make it more flavoursome and healthy.

If you add the sugar last, you shouldn't get problems with the jam catching on the bottom of the bowl.

Granny Smith or Pink Lady apples work well, others may also work.
