At what point do you freeze? After the full cook or before you add the sour cream?

NatHappy - steamer basket, not MC. And my personal preference is to only do 25-30 minutes, because the meat is much more tender that way. I tried using the reply link but it wouldn't work, so I hope you see this!

Perfect for kids just use one teaspoon of paprika and I also tenderised my beef before cooking to ensure it was moist and tender not chewy

Would this be ok for a one year old?  Read in comments it was spicey. Would that be due to paprika or something else that i could omit? Any advice appreciated.

  • Great Straganoff!!! A hit
    Submitted by snskitchen on 21. July 2016 - 19:15.

Great Straganoff!!! A hit with the family! I cooked for an extra 10 min with an additional 2 tablespoons of  cornflour. I am curious to see if I can replace the sour cream with yogurt and lime/lemon juice as I usually don't have sour cream in the fridge and will serve yogurt and lime/lemon juice instead.

  • The house smells delicious
    Submitted by schachts on 9. June 2016 - 22:20.

The house smells delicious after cooking this!! I used carrots instead of mushrooms (have one that doesn't eat mushrooms), and added some worcester sauce and balsamic following others' suggestions, and just half a spoon of paprika and replaced water with white wine... Loved the taste of the sauce as it was cooking.. First time we've had stroganoff - super easy and kids really enjoyed it!

    Submitted by MrsBethCarroll89 on 29. May 2016 - 18:54.

Thank you so much for this fantastic recipe!

I made it for dinner tonight and it got my fussy hubby's approval! I have printed it and added it to my folder - it's a new favourite here!

One change I made was swapping the 1/4 cup water for 1/4 cup dry white wine and I only had about 200g sour cream, so made up the extra 100g with cream cheese. Garnished with parsley - yummo!

    Submitted by alicia3766 on 19. May 2016 - 22:05.

Really tasty and rich. I added dijon mustard and 1 tablespoon of cornflour and the consistency was great! Next time I think I will add worcesteshire sauce as well.

I served it with penne pasta which I wasnt a huge fan of, I think it needs a green vegetable to cut through the richness. Next time I will be serving it with either mash potato or rice and something green like beans or broccoli.

Flavour was great, only end result is a bit runny as my trimmed rump steak was mostly was pureed and not as many meat pieces to enjoy but nothing went to waste. Will try jiggling dial to get slowest possible reverse stir setting.

    Submitted by BeesAreCool on 15. December 2015 - 18:47.

Easy peasy and tasty! Thanks for the recipe. I cheated a bit and used a can of creamy mushroom soup (clearing out my pantry as the thermo is only new) instead of the cream etc and it still turned out wonderful. Served it with GF pasta spirals. Left out the cornflour and used natural yoghurt instead of sour cream. Mixed in fresh, chopped parsley just before serving.

    Mushroom- free strog!!

Ok, don't laugh. I love stroganoff but can't stand mushrooms. This recipe is a winner. I omitted the mushies and added two carrots in the tomato paste step. I didn't have sour cream, so used up some leftover cream and natural yogurt with a dash of Worcestershire sauce and balsamic vinegar. Added chopped parsley and served with thermomix mash (cooked earlier) and greens. I also only cooked the meat for 20 minutes, this was plenty!! Yum!! Husband, master six and miss two all had third helpings!!
