Unfortunately this just wasn’t to my liking. I am used to store bought French Onion dip, and this is one of the few Thermo recipes that I don’t prefer over something mass produced. Sorry 😐

  • I'm giving this 4 stars only

    Submitted by Decembergirl on 17. July 2016 - 19:53.

I'm giving this 4 stars only because mine also had a slightly bitter aftertase. I suspect that's to do with the size of the onions. If I'd used 2 small onions I think it would have been sweeter without the bitter aftertaste. Also I added a little sour cream to loosen the mix, as per a previous comment, but with the amount of onion I had it wasn't really needed, so my dip was a bit on the soft side. So all in all I think this is a great recipe and I just have to refine my process.

    Submitted by 4 boys and a princess on 23. June 2016 - 08:35.

Yum. Better than Kraft dip which is my favourite. I used 1/2 large red onion and 1 small to medium brown onion. Cooked it and added I massel vege stock cube (all I had) with about 4 mins left in the cooking time. Allowed to cool and mixed in cream cheese. Can't wait to eat it tomorrow at my sons party

    Submitted by Louisa1979 on 26. May 2015 - 21:46.

I made this recipe as is and did not find it bitter. It was super yum. I wonder whether it is the choice of onion that made others bitter? I used a small brown onion.

  • I feel terrible leaving such

    Submitted by ceebuck on 25. January 2015 - 17:57.

I feel terrible leaving such a low rating but I have to be honest - I had to throw this out. It was so bitter. I tried adding lemon juice, sugar, and a few other things but it just couldn't be saved. I think it would be better to carmelise the onions first (as has been suggested before), but it was too late for my batch and I didn't want to waste more ingredients testing the theory.
