Ingredients

1 litre(s)

Spicy Tomato relish

  • 250 grams ripe tomatoes, Peeled
  • 250 grams green cooking apples, peeled and de-seeded
  • 250 grams onions, peeled
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled
  • 120 grams white wine vinagar
  • 200 grams brown sugar
  • 2 level teaspoons salt
  • 2 level teaspoon paprika

Recipe's preparation

  1.

Place onions, apple, capsicum, garlic and tomato in TM and chop 4 sec speed 5.

Add half the vinegar and salt. Cook 10 minutes, 100deg, reverse, speed 2.

Add all remaining ingredients and cook 30 minutes, 100deg, reverse, speed 2.

Check consistency, should be jam like. If not cook for further 10 minutes

If you desire chunky relish, pour immediately into jars, rest lid on for 1 minute then seal.

If you desire smooth, blend 10 seconds speed 8-9 and pour immediately into jars, rest lid on for 1 minute then seal.

I make this and place in the fridge and inhale it so it does not need preservative. If you intend to keep it in jars for a long time substitute half the vinegar with Ezysauce (Coles).

Tip

Stick to the amounts and the relish wil be slightly zingy. If to add really hot chilli or more chilli you will risk losing the great taste to the heat.

After reading all comments, I cut sugar to 150gms, used mustard seed instead of mustard and didn't peel tomatoes. Made 3 jars. Very nice thank you for recipe.

I'm not really a relish person nor a tomato person but HOLY WOW this recipe is absolutely delish! whenever I see people on the Thermomix pages asking what recipe to use up their tomatoes with I send them this all the time!

My neighbour sends me over bags of tomatoes regularly and I make this. This time I made around 8x bottles worth for my peeps at work and everyone has smashed it saying how much they absolutely love it and use it on and in everything (I've even had to make some of them more).

Thank you for such an awesome recipe.

  • We had friends over for a bbq

    Submitted by shell15june on 23. November 2016 - 15:47.

We had friends over for a bbq on the weekend and most things of course I was raving on about my thermomix and one of my friends asked if it could make things like a relish.. I said yeah of course.. So I looked for a few recipes and this one I read out the ingredients to him and he said ohhhh that sounds nice..

Today i I made it.. I'm not a relish girl but I had a little taste before it was all bottled up and wozers it tasted amazing! I packaged it up and delivered the goods this morning! I'm very excited to see if they like it but I think it should be a hit! So much flavour in just a little spoonful!

I'll be keeping this recipe in case anyone else wants some and will make it again for sure!!

  • Wonderful recipe! i changed

    Submitted by ardijo on 23. October 2016 - 17:48.

Wonderful recipe! i changed it a little as I didn't have chilli flakes. I put in three normal sized red chillies with the seeds and it wasn't even hot. I really thought it would be. Hubby likes hot relish so I will put more in next time. Maybe be a little less sugar also. I cooked it for the required time and it was perfect. Thanks so much for sharing this recipe

Made this for a second time today and realised I hadn't put a comment. This is the yummiest relish. Very easy. Didn't use capsicum but added another tomato. Added a bit much chilli this time - a little hot but still yummy. Will be making against for Christmas gifts.

Submitted by Bronze Sunflower on 20. July 2014 - 21:21.

    Fantastic, sweet and spicy.

I added 6 fresh red and green chilli's (no seeds) and the hot scent from the cooking relish was a bit of a worry, it smelt like it would knock your socks off. Thankfully the finished product has a wonderful balance of sweet and heat.

I will definitely make it again.
