Recipe is created for
TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

Tip
Tips: To stop spreading too much, don't make them like balls, make them more the shape of half an egg - a little higher domed.
Disclaimer: Thanks Nan! This is a variation of my grandmother's recipe (a little light on detail - no recipes for her!). It still tastes the same as when we used to make them together 30 years ago!
Costs: As at May '15, the recipe costs:
- all Homebrand - $2.38, or 12c per piece
- all brand names - $5.61, or 28c per piece
I use a combination of both, so I'm somewhere in the middle.

These are pretty delicious and easy. I just need to remember to read the recipe instead of jumping ahead LOL not used to making icing sugar first. My other half also prefers them cooked less so no brown bits or I get to eat them all...oh poor me!
Taste delicious!...
Taste delicious!
I reduced sugar to 120g as suggested by others, and I also added some orange zest. Really tasty and I'm sure I'll be making them again

Very nice - we found 120g sugar worked, I added a half tbsp mixed spice and replaced 60g of sultanas for mixed peel.
Just like Nan’s!...
Just like Nan’s!
swapped margarine for butter, used 100g of sugar and I only had half the amount of sultanas which was more than enough (my nan would add dates too). I added orange zest too! Delicious!! Kids new fav!
Oh and did sneak a tiny dab of raw sugar to tops before they went into the oven.

Thank you for such a delicious and easy recipe!...
Thank you for such a delicious and easy recipe! They taste exactly like my Grandma used to make. I blitzed raw sugar at the start instead of using castor sugar, used butter (not margarine) and half a standard box of sultanas (190g - plenty enough). I scooped using a tbs size cookie scoop, they didn't spread at all and made 30 cakes.

Thank you for a great recipe - it's now a staple in our baking regime! Like others I used butter instead of marg and with all my baking recipes, I always do a bit of hand mixing myself at the end, including adding the sultanas in and mixing manually. That avoided them getting stuck Just chuck a blob of the mix on the baking sheet and let them look ugly and misshappen - best ever rock cakes.

I've made 4 batches of these in two weeks and everyone loves them!! I ran out and had all of the kids complaining as they wanted them for school lol.

OMG, these are good!!!
Haven't made rock cakes since I was a kid and these were better than I remembered. I did cut back on sugar, down to 100 gms and I only had 120 of sultanas and I reckon the quanities were perfect for our household. Still sweet enough and had plenty of sultanas in it for my liking.
Thanks for sharing this recipe, so quick and easy to make. Will be a regular in our house from now on.

Love this recipe, thank you!! I do the dough setting for 30sec to mix the sultanas.....
Perfect recipe! The only
Perfect recipe! The only change I made was I rolled them in sugar before popped them in the oven. To help mix the sultanas in I just used the Thermie spatula through the lid to help it along.
My Thermomix had trouble at
My Thermomix had trouble at the last step, when mixing in the sultanas. I followed the instructions in the recipe but the blade was stuck in the dough and didn't move. I turned it off and mixed with the spatula but it was very sticky and difficult to get out of the mixing bowl. Once baked they turned out perfectly though and tasted great. Did anyone else have this problem?

Very yummy. I used light brown sugar and only used about 70g and only added about 160g sultanas and they worked out great. Very versitle and easy recipe.

A very yummy recipe. I ran out of sultanas so made up the difference with raisins and currants. I also topped each one with half a cherry. Was a little disappointed that they spread into flattish cookies instead of rocky mounds, but tasted good anyway.
Highly enjoyable rock cakes
Highly enjoyable rock cakes and an achievable recipe to make with a 2yo chef. Overall, it was a bit too sweet so the next time I make these rock cakes, I'll reduce the sugar to 100g, add 60g of rice malt syrup and reduce the sultanas to 130g.

Easy, quick and very yummy!
My husband kept eating them.
I added one tablespoon of mixed spice. I will do the same next time plus reduced the sugar as they were a bit too sweet for us. Shaped them as recommended and they came out perfectly. Thank you
