Buttermilk Scones

Ingredients

16 piece(s)

Basic Recipe

  • 300 grams Self Raising Flour
  • 20 grams raw sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 60 grams Butter, Chilled and cut in cubes
  • 200 grams buttermilk

Recipe's preparation

    Basic Buttermilk Scones
  1. 1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees (fanforced). Line a baking tray with baking paper.

    2. Place self raising flour, sugar, salt and butter in to TM bowl.

    10 seconds/speed 6 or until it resembles breadcrumbs. 

    3. Add buttermilk Closed lid/1 minute/Dough mode or until dough comes together. Lightly flour the bench top and empty the dough out. 

    4. Work the dough until it comes together and roll out to about 3cm thick. Use a glass or round cookie cutter to cut out circles around 4cm and place on prepared trays. Repeating this until all dough as been used up.

    5. Bake for approx 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Tip

TIP: you can also use a larger size cookie cutter if you would like but you may need to increase the cooking time.

    Easy to make. Crunchy on the outside and very light on the inside.Cooking 7
    Didn't have buttermilk, so used lactose free milk with a splash of vinegar. Turned out great.

    I didn't have buttermilk on hand so used what was in the fridge - skim milk. turned out great. But I only got 9 scones.... was feeding a few people so I made a 2nd batch straight after but double the reciepe. Should have done that first. Nothing wrong with left overs for breakky the next morning

    ive made these probably about 30 times and they work out perfect every single time. So easy and by far the best tasting and fluffiest scones. Tip: do not overwork dough once you remove from TM.

    Very quick recipe. I found the dough was very sticky and although the scones did not rise a great deal once cooked, they did taste delicious. I added sultanas to mine as I prefer a fruit scone. I will certainly make these again.

    I made these because I had buttermilk left over from making butter. They are absolutely delicious. Will definitely mke again. They just didn't rise a lot but I also seem to have that problem tmrc_emoticons.(
