Greek souvlaki / pita bread

  • 1 tablespoon dried yeast
  • 280 grams water
  • 450 grams plain flour
  • 20 gram olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Recipe's preparation

  1. Place yeast and water in TM bowl. Time 2 minutes, 37 degrees, speed 1.

  2. Add remaining ingredients and combine 5 seconds, speed 3.

  3. Set TM to locked lid and knead Dough mode dough for 2 minutes. 

  4. Remove dough from TM bowl and place in a large bowl that has been lightly oiled and cover bowl with plastic wrap. Allow to prove and double in size in a warm place for about 30 minutes. 

  5. knock down dough by prodding it with you fingers and then divide dough into 10 portions.

  6. Roll each portion into a ball and using a rolling pin and on a lightly floured surface roll into flat rounds approximately 2mm thick

  7. Heat a small frying pan, add a small amount of oil and when hot, cook pita on each side until golden. Serve immediately.

Tip

Dough can be easily frozen after it has proved and then defrosted when ready for use.

    Perfect! I only had the 7g sachet of yeast so adjusted the flour and water proportions accordingly (370g and 230g respectively). Make sure your pan is nice and hot to get the best result - not the heat you would make a pancake on!

    Served with leftover roast lamb, diced tomatoes and cucumber, haloumi and a lemon, garlic and greek yoghurt sauce.

    Amazing bread! I cooked mine on my gass BBQ grill and it came out perfect!  Dough just needed a bit of dusting with flour after turning if out. Defiantly Making this again

    Sorry for the error! Water measurement should be 1 1/4 cups or about 280 grams. Dough should be perfect, smooth and not really sticky with the amended water weight.

    Big hit with the family...yes it was sticky but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a little extra flour. Will be making these again and no more store bought ones for me ! tmrc_emoticons.)
