Recipe's preparation
Peel and slice apples. Arrange in Varoma and cook for 17 minutes on Varoma Temperature speed 2.
Stir apples occasionally to help with even cooking.
Once cooked set aside and cool slightly.
Weigh Butter, flour & sugar and mix on speed 6 for 6 seconds
Set "Dough mode" speed for 30 seconds and add egg and water. Mix until combined. Mixture should be slightly sticky but not wet. If mixture is too wet add a little more flour.
Half mixture and press half into a lined slice tin. Press out with your tips of fingers or a spoon. If mixture is sticky, flour your finger tips to help with pressing into tin. Spread steamed apples over the pastry base.
With the remaining mixture, press out on to a piece of glad bake the size of the tin. Once you have the desired shape turn upside down and place on top of apples and peel off the glad bake. Prick with a fork and sprinkle genoursly with raw sugar.
Bake in 180 C oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with runny cream or icecream or slice and put in lunch boxes.

Fabulous recipe, I have made it twice in one week. I added mixed spice and very finely grated orange peel to my apples to spice it up a bit.
Have just made this for lunch
Have just made this for lunch boxes. I have to admit I didnt think it was going to make the shortbread mixture stretch far enough but it did! Just waiting for it to cool so I can cut up and freeze (hoping it will freeze well!!)
Thanks for the recipe!

This was yummy and very quick
This was yummy and very quick to make. I already had some apples stewed so it was just a matter of making the shortbread. I actually rolled my shortbread between two peices of baking paper and it worked a treat. I also sprinkled some cinnamon between the apples and then made up some cinnamon sugar and sprinkled on the top of the shortbread. Served it cold with some cream and it was a real winner!
I want to make this again and
I want to make this again and add some cinammon to the apples. I used margarine instead of butter and it was a bit too rich so will use less next time. Otherwise very easy to make. Thanks.

Love this recipe and so easy. I added cinnamon and sugar to my apples as the apples were not very sweet.
I have made this slice twice. I didn't have any butter so I used margarine . 1st time mixture was sticky but I managed to spread it by wetting my fingertips. Second time I used 100g of margarine and the mixture was perfect. it turned out excellent both times. Served it with cream. Big hit with family and nice treat in kids lunchbox.

This was nice, however I think the shortcake needed sugar added to it rather than sprinkled over the top at the end. Steaming the apples worked well, and the filling was lovely. I used Pink Lady Apples

PInk Lady's are fine, however you won't need to add sugar to them . The tart taste adds to the flavour of the slice. Hope you enjoy it.
