Mongolian Lamb

4

Ingredients

0 portion(s)

Mongolian lamb

  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 10 gram ginger, (big thumb), peeled
  • 450-500 grams lamb fillet, sliced
  • 30 gram vegetable oil, e.g. canola, rice bran
  • 3-4 stalk spring onion, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 30 gram shaoxing wine
  • 20 gram soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • chilli sauce, optional
5

Recipe's preparation

  1. 1. Add garlic and ginger to TM bowl. Chop 4secs/ speed 7. Scrape down sides of bowl.
    2. Add butterfly attachment. I do this as I find that the meat does not 'catch' on the blades as much and makes a better looking dish.
    3. Add lamb to TM bowl and saute 8mins/ varoma/ / . Take OUT butterfly.
    4. Add spring onions and all other sauces (including chilli sauce if using) and cook a further 5mins/ varoma/ / .
    5. Serve with steamed rice and vegetables.

Quite average but very quick and easy to make. The meat was stewed and very chewy. Like the other comments, it doesn't make a lot...around 3 servings (served with rice and steamed veg)

Simple, Easy and Flavoursome, thank you for a great recipe that my entire family enjoys. I have already cooked this one several times. I do drain the sauce at the end and thicken it up with cornflour but other than that it is perfect.

So simple and yummy. I won't cook the meat so long next time. Perhaps only 5min first up, then 5min after the sauce ingredients go in. I steamed broccoli and carrot in the varoma while it was cooking, and added mushroom to the meat mixture. Also added a couple tsp's of cornflour at the end.

This is a nice easy one. I added a teaspoon of cornflour at the end too. Quite tasty. I'd probably add a little more of the sauces next time to boost the flavour.

Thank you! I doubled the sauce but I found this too salty for us. Next time will use half the soy and less ginger as was very strong. Also used cornflour to thicken. Steamed veg in varoma and served with rice.

Love this. I add almost 2 tbs of corn flour to thicken the sauce, use dry sherry instead of the Asian wine and throw in some brown onion. If I was cooking for more than 2 adults I would double the meat.

I tried this using beef and it was wonderful, super easy and delicious.I had Chinese Cooking Wine from Shaoxing and used that - not sure if it is the right one but couldn't find Shaoxing at the Coles. I will have to make some more very soon. I also added some fresh coriander when served.

Thoroughly enjoyed... kids also!!  I had 600grams of diced lamb, was no problem with that amount.  I also don't like to use the butterfly, so didn't, and never have mush or shred issues with meat!! Thanks for sharing!!

    Submitted by spykee on 29. May 2016 - 17:50.

Loved this! I did it with Chicken - and didn't mind the runny consistency, because once it was cooked I set it aside in a thermoserver - In a wok, a tb oil (of choice) fry up some asian veggies (carrot, broccoli, snow peas, capsicum.. etc) until almost tender, add  a couple of tb of the mongolian sauce and keep stirring till veggies are to your liking.  Add the rest of the chicken, some noodles (prepared as directed on pack) and YUM!! Sprinkle with some sesame seeds to serve. SO good! Thank you!

  • Great easy recipe. Used lamb

    Submitted by Platypusbilroy on 22. May 2016 - 12:31.

Great easy recipe. Used lamb offcuts(on sale), noted the other comments, re runny sauce, so added already baked pumpkin towards the end of the cooking time, which thickened it to gravy like consistency. Made roti also. If it lasts... should be very tasty tomorrow!!!

  • Silly question but when does

    Submitted by Keznewt on 12. May 2016 - 14:23.

Silly question but when does the oil get added? For the sauté step, or with the other sauce components? It's not mentioned in the method.

Delicious recipe. Someone mentioned earlier about "velveting" the meat. I searched online and tried this technique of tenderising. Goodness, what a difference it makes to the meat, and so simple. Turned it into a standout dish.

  • Hi Pondsy, not sure if this

    Submitted by meisonite on 16. March 2015 - 12:57.

Hi Pondsy, not sure if this was supposed to be a helpful review about my actual recipe as you used the wrong type of meat (and therefore user error). To help with the butterfly, please make sure it it is placed to the left of the 'highest blade' in the mixing knife and give it a little twist. That should keep it attached and not fall off. Better luck next time tmrc_emoticons.-)
