Ingredients

Cauliflower Cheese Bake

  • 1 whole cauliflower, cut into pieces
  • 3 slices of bread, (or breadcrumbs pre-made in TM)
  • 500 g Milk
  • 50 g flour
  • 50 g diced butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt, (optional)
  • 100 g Cheddar cheese, (cut into small chunks)
  • 500 g water for steaming

Recipe's preparation

    Cauliflower Cheese Bake
  1. Preheat oven to 220c. You can put a large rectangular casserole dish in to warm up with the oven at the same timePlace bread and 40g of cheese into TM bowl and grate for 5-10 seconds, speed 6. Set aside. No need to wash TM bowlAdd 500g of water, put cauliflower pieces in Varoma, set in place and cook on Varoma temp, 20 minutes, speed 2When cooked, set varoma aside with the cauliflower still inside and lid still on to keep warm (you can sit the varoma on top of your round Thermoserver if you like) and empty water out of TM bowl (no need to wash)Add milk, flour, butter and salt if using to TM bowl, cook on 90c for 7 minutes, speed 4For the last minute of cooking time add in the remaining cheese chunks and mix at speed 7 for 10 seconds, then drop down to speed 3 until timer finishesPut cooked cauliflower in casserole dishPour cheese sauce over the topTop with cheese and breadcrumb mixtureBake on 220c for 15-20 minutes or until golden. Alternatively you can just brown the cheese and breadcrumbs under the grill until golden

    I made this gluten free using the same quantities and it worked out great! I would love to double the sauce (i use a big pot/1.5 cauli's) not sure if my TM5 will allow the capacity? Has anyone tried it?

    so yum! i did half broccoli half cauliflower and it was great. im not a fan of a breadcrumb top so just used some extra grated cheese on top. Have saved as a favourite!

    I have already rated this dish (full marks) but today I made a few minor changes which has turned up the volume on this already delicious side dish.

    As suggested, I halved the sauce qantities (this was a perfect amount of sauce), added 1tsp of stock (instead of salt) and 1/2 tsp of mustard, and a bit of black pepper. Sensational. Thank you for this recipe.


    However, PLEASE CORRECT THE SPACING in the recipe! It's tricky to read/follow tmrc_emoticons.-)

    This was excellent! I didn't read the recipe properly, and grated all of the cheese with the bread crumbs, so just added extra cheese, ( and a clove of garlic, some ground pepper and a sprig of thyme) to the flour/milk/butter mix. YUM! My cauliflower hating mother ate it and said it was great

    Deliciously creamy, cheesy sauce!

    There was probably a bit much sauce for the califlower I had - perhaps mine was a little on the small side, but it was really delicious, so the extra was mopped up pretty quickly! I didn't add salt, and didn't miss it.

    I look forward to trying some variations, as it's such a versatile sauce! It would be delicious as a finishing sauce over veggies, and some of the variations in the reviews sound fantastic!

    Yummy. Although I had my cauliflower pieces too big so think I needed to have them cooked enough on the steaming process and not rely on the oven to cook or soften them at all. Will definitely make it again but will be more mindful of how crunchy the cauliflower is

    I can't believe how tasty this is! I hated cauliflower cheese as a kid.  I made this for myself and my partner (with broccoli in it as well) and I kept a bit aside with just a small amount of sauce and pureed it for my baby.

    I took a risk & used this recipe to make my first ever cauliflower bake for Christmas. I used a large head of cauliflower & a head of broccoli. It was super easy & the sauce was perfect. Lots of left over breadcrumbs popped in the freezer for next time I make this, which will be soon. Thanks for sharing!

    I enjoyed this, thank you. I had a small head of cauliflower and found that I had too much sauce and waaaay too much breadcrumb so I'll adjust quantities next time. I also found the cauliflower to be mushy so I'll decrease the steaming time next time.

    Yummy. As well as the whole cauliflower I also added a bunch of asparagus, three carrots (I microwaved all the veges) and tuna. Even with the extra base it didn't need more bechamal sauce although it could have done with more crumb topping. With the bechamal sauce I sautéed garlic in the beginning then added Dijon mustard and parsley at the end and it turned out great.
