      Recipe is created for
      TM 5
If you are using a Thermomix® TM6 measuring cup with your Thermomix® TM5:
For cooking (simmering) at temperatures of 95°C or above (200°F), the simmering basket should always be used instead of the TM6 measuring cup, as the TM6 measuring cup fits tightly in the lid. The simmering basket rests loosely on top, is steam-permeable, and also prevents food spatter from the mixing bowl.

Recipe's preparation

  1. Weigh split peas into TM, add water and secure lid in place

Place steamer basket on top of lid and cook 30minutes/100C/Counter-clockwise operation/speed1

Check split peas are tender and cook for longer if necessary

    Blend split peas 7seconds/speed 6

Remove cooked peas from TM and set aside

    Rinse and dry TM bowl
  2. Place ginger and green chilli into TM, insert MC and chop 10Seconds/Speed 7. Scrape down sides of TM bowl and mill again if necessary.

Add oil, cumin, mustard seeds, curry leaves and cinnamon (if using) to TM. Cook 5minutes/100C/Counter-clockwise operation/Speed 1 or until you hear the mustard seeds crackling.

Add cooked split peas, tomatoes, asafoetida, tumeric, chilli powder, sugar, lemon juice, extra water (if needed - see notes) and salt to taste

Place lid and steamer basket to TM and cook 10minutes/100C/speed 2

Serve Dahl garnished with coriander leaves

Tip

1.The dahl should be pouring consistency. The amount of water you add in step 9 depends on the amount of water that was left back when you cooked the split peas.

2. The spiceness of this dish can be adjusted according to taste by adding or removing chilli

3.This dish makes a delicious lunch with roti bread or a wrap.

Great recipe and makes a change from using red lentils.

mine took longer than 30min to cook and because lots of liquid was coming out of lid so I had to turn temp down to 90 deg for the first 10 mins
