Clone of Pumpkin and Lentil Dahl

Ingredients

Dahl Ingredients

  • 500 g pumpkin puree (cooked)
  • 1/2 bunch coriander
  • 4 pods cardamom
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 teaspoons cumin seeds
  • 2 teaspoons Mustard seeds
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2cm piece Fresh Tumeric
  • 1 large onion, peeled and quartered
  • 2.5cm piece cm fresh ginger, peeled
  • 25 g Evoo
  • 230 g dried red lentils
  • 400 g diced canned tomatoes

Recipe's preparation

  1. 1. Place coriander (leaves and stems) into TM bowl and chop for 5 seconds on speed 7.  Set aside.

    2. Place cardamom, star anise, cumin seeds and mustards seeds into measuring cup and drop onto blades spinning at speed 8.  Process for 8-10 seconds.  Scrape down with spatula.

    3. Add garlic, ginger, tumeric and onion and chop for 5 seconds on speed 7.  Scrape down the sides of the bowl with spatula.

    4. Add oil and saute for 2 minutes at 100 degrees on speed 2 with measuring cup off.

    5. Replace measuring cup.  Add pumpkin and cook for two minutes at 100 degrees on speed 2.

    6. Add tomatoes and lentils and cook for 17 minutes at 100 degrees on speed 2.

Tip

Serve with yoghurt and and fresh coriander, rice and/or naan.

  • OK, but the taste of the star anise was too...

    OK, but the taste of the star anise was too strong. I ended up adding about half a cup of tomato puree, partly to increase the tomato taste, but also to make it more liquid. Not sure I'd make it again, but I'm happy I tried it.
